What to do when xbox 360 arrives from Microsoft?

William asks…

What to do when xbox 360 arrives from Microsoft?

I recently bought a xbox 360 second hand from this guy that tried to fix my original 360 but could not so I bought a 360 off him for $100.

My original was out of warranty and I did not want to pay a $100 to Microsoft to get it fixed. I found this guy online that has a business fixing 360‘s and mods them. I bought a new 360 from him that had a HDMI port. My original had major freezing issues and had the e71 and e69 errors and after they could not fix it, I decided to get this new one or one that worked because it was not really new just worked and thats what matters.

After three days of using it and it working fine it displayed the e74 error. I called Microsoft, set up a repair and sent it off. About a week since I sent it Microsoft told me that console was under investigation because it had a serial number that did not match the one that I gave out for the repair. After the investigation they found that is was tampered with. Which I knew in the beginning it was because the guy that I bought it off of told me it had a mod that allowed you to play games off burned CD’s. I just thought Microsoft would at least attempt to fix it because the serial number I gave them was still in warranty.

They told me, they were not going to fix it because they did not want to fix getting a electrical shock from trying to open it. Really? I don’t think there would be any current flowing in it if you don’t have any cables hooked up to it, to give it a current. Anyway, I checked my repair status for my console and to my surprise the console that was listed was a different one. I remember the 360 I sent off was a Elite system, it looked like a Pro on the outside with the white color.Elites are supposed to be in a Black color. Don’t ask why it was white as whatever happened to the xbox before I bought it is out of my hands.

So, the console that was listed was a 360 Arcade system and the serial number was different from the Elite I sent in so this has to be a replacement console they are shipping back to me. I called Microsoft and told them about it and from there records it says its the same console they are shipping back to me just not repaired. What? I told them that I saw that there was a Arcade system coming back to me and it has a different serial number telling me it is a new or replacement console. Microsoft was surprised by this, they told me if get a different console back like what I think is happening, to call them back.

Why? If I get my modded 360 back and I set it up and it gives me the E74 error I am going to be very upset. As I am getting a free invitation to the Halo Reach beta and I do not want to miss out on that. If I get a new console or at least new to me which I think will happen because I have seen proof its different from the one I sent in for repairs because of the different serial numbers then I am going to keep it. I have been through hell and back trying to get a working 360 for almost a month. I believe I am getting a replacement so I am planning on keeping something that is going to work.

What does Microsoft want me to do? Send it back to them? No thank you, They are in charge of what console comes back to me and it looks like they are giving me a replacement as they did not even attempt to fix mine. I learned a lesson and that is never to buy a console or any computer second hand as to what this experience has gave me. I know Trade N Play fixes console from what there site says. Does anyone know the costs for repairing a Xbox 360. That is going to be my plan, if I get my same console I sent in and I find out it still has the e74 error. Its either that, or see if Game Stop or Play N Trade accept a broken 360 for a trade in. So I can at least get some sort of a profit out of it to help me in saving up to buy a brand new xbox 360.

On the other hand if I am getting a completely different system, which I am pretty sure is going to happen since I have proof. Then I don’t have to worry about nothing if it boots up with no problems or error codes. Then again it could be my console I shipped off just with two different serial numbers which would be really rare. But I highly doubt that unless it has parts of a arcade and a elite system in it or the codes just mistaken it for two different consoles.

Which again would be very bad a strange. But I will refuse to believe that until my 360 arrives at my doorstep and until I hook it up and check numbers with it with what I have in my records. Also see if there are any problems with it starting up. I really think this is a completely different console from what xbox.com/support is telling me when I sign in to my account and check my repair status for the console. Different number, different system type, different xbox 360. It least it looks that way.

What should I do when I get “this” xbox 360? What should I do moving forward? As I can’t get a new xbox 360 until July and I am only doing that if I get my “same” conso

OK, so I only read as far as your having sent a modded console into Microsoft. Not the brightest thing to do. They’ll just send you back your console unrepaired, and if it wasn’t before it’ll be banned from Live now.

Daniel asks…

Being banned from Xbox 360?

Well, first of all, when i say banned i don’t mean banned like when they fully take it away. I’m talking about that thing when they take your GS away and put CHEATER on your gamer label thing. I didn’t know they could do this until recently. I know that 1 common ways are by modding your xbox 360. What types of mods do they mean by this, and how do they find out. Also, I play Halo:Reach a lot and I like to farm for Cr.

I’ve heard some stuff about Bungie finding out about people doing this and they get banned or whatever it’s called. What’s the chance of this happening, whats the punishment, and is this even true? I usually do the one on ONI swordbase with the Artillery locator.Does that one count? Also, does doing the Gruntapocalypse one count as farming credits.

Thanks for all your help. I just got my xbox 360 over the summer and I can’t lose it this quickly.

Author answers:

Bungie is more likely to reset your cR count and ban you from earning them for a time. Taking your GS away usually comes from when people hack the system to unlock achievements they didn’t earn. There are many ways to tell, most commonly when an achievement that requires you to be online (like win a multiplayer match) is unlocked while offline.

Even if your GS is reset, you aren’t banned from Live – you just won’t be able to earn those GS for the achievements you unlocked before the reset, and your gamerzone will be marked as “Cheater”.

Author answers:

Well I heard this a lot, well to start don’t ask for peoples opinions, review the products, use Youtube or Amazon for reviews on the products like I do. Then I will calculate my top 3 then watch them again, then pick a winner. But one thing, no point buying Halo, its just NO.1 but with better graphics.

Halo Reach

Daniel asks…

how to connect my computer to my xbox 360 so i can download Halo Reach files to my xbox?

i want to download a Halo Reach file to my xbox 360 so i can play it. unfortunetly im not good enough to create this yet so i need to download. but when i click download to my xbox 360 it says “You must be logged in with a linked gamertag to download files to your Xbox 360” HOW do i do what i just quoted?

Author answers:

When you create you’re bungie.net account (or windowslive account) there is an option to link them. With your current account, just go to account setting and I think there is an option to link them

Where do I download Halo Reach beta for Xbox 360?

Author answers:

Its in the spotlight section on the 360 dashboard currently, enjoy =p

Laura asks…

Can Halo Reach be downloaded onto the Xbox 360 250 gb hard drive?

I’m getting an Xbox 360 250 gb console soon, and I’m wondering if it’s possible to download Halo Reach onto the 250 gb hard drive. OR DO I HAVE TO GET THE PACKAGED RETAIL VERSION? If it is possible to download it, is it better than the packaged version?

Author answers:

The downloaded version and the retail version are exactly the same. Only difference is that you don’t need the disk, and all the information is stored on your hard drive, so it loads faster. Plus, if you ever switch xboxs, as long as you have your gamertag, you can download the game as many times as you want.

PlayStation 3 V Xbox 360?

Steven asks…

PlayStation 3 V Xbox 360?

Xbox 360

1. How did PS3 loose it’s popularity so fast when PS2 sold 114 million units worldwide? Right now XBox 360 is bascially killing PS3; Better graphics, better ratings and reviews and far more units sold.

2. What is the chances of PS3 making better quality games in the future when game delevopers learn to reach the full potienial of the PS3. Will the XBox 360‘s potienial power run dry and then the PS3 in a couple of years pass the XBox 360?

3. How good will GTA IV be on PS3 and Xbox 360? Will GTA IV smash all the previous Xbox and PlayStation records like: GTA: San Andreas and Halo 2, and win alot of game awards? Or will Halo 3 be the biggest hit on Xbox 360?

Author answers:

Xbox 360 all the way!! PS3 only sounds better because people believe what Sony tell them. It was the same with the PS2. It was so crap to begin with and people still flocked to get their hands on it. I know so many people who are on to their 2nd or even 3rd PS2 because of the poorly built console and the poor support from Sony.

As for the PS3 being the more powerful console, it’s not! Infact it lags a long way behind. The graphic bandwith on the 360 is about 5 times that of the PS3. (PS3 has a total system bandwidth of 48 GB/s while the Xbox has a total system bandwidth of 278.4 GB/s) Remember that the frequency of a processor (3.2ghz) is not whats important, it how many mb or gb per second it can push through.

This has already been shown in several games. Just compare screen shots for:
Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3)

Gears of War (360)

The detail in the 360 game is clear to see.

Also have a look at this article about Ridge Racer. The reason for this lack of detail on the PS3’s part is simply because is cannot process the complex graphics as quick as the Xbox 360

Lots of people have also been saying ‘Just give the PS3 some time and there will be more and better games available than for the 360’. Well that is still a big question mark because as developers freely admit, it is a lot easier to develop games for the 360.

The last point I’ll make is about the whole HD vs Blu-Ray thing. This is more of an observation than anything. What if the HD/Blu-Ray war goes in favour of HD? Doesn’t that make the PS3 kinda useless for watchin movies? Also, Sony themselves have said in the past that playing a lot of dvd’s on the PS2 puts a lot of strain on the console. In the real world this ended up with a lot of useless PS2’s. Couldn’t the PS3 go the same way. At least with the HD option being an addon for the 360, u’ll only have to change the hd player if it packs in (or Blu-Ray win the battle). And these will be cheaper in future.

Now, just to really piss everyone off. GO BUY A PC!!! They have been giving us better performance and graphics for years 🙂

Hope that helps

Chris asks…

Is the Halo Reach Limited Addition Xbox 360 really worth the value of $400?

I am debating on whether to get either the Halo Reach Limited Edition Xbox 360, or the new Xbox 360 Slim. But I have some questions on whether or not the Halo Reach Edition is right for me. Here are my Questions:

1. Is the Halo Reach Edition Kinect Ready? The reason I am asking this, is because when I compared both the Slim, and the Reach Edition, the Slim was Kinect Ready, but the Reach wasn’t. (Source: GameStop.com)

2. Have their been any major system problems with the Slim Console? Meaning, Hard drive overheating; 3 red rings of death; 2 red rings; system error; total system failure; CD/ DVD Drive failure?

3. If you own the Slim version of the Xbox 360, was it worth spending $300? Meaning, did you get your moneys worth, and have you had or haven’t had any system problems with it. If you have please list them. And where you bought the system.

4. What would you choose based on your System experience? The slim version? Or the Halo Reach Version?

5. If you were on a budget, and you were a MAJOR Halo fan, would you buy the reach 360 limited edition and the Halo Reach Legendary Edition plus the Limited Halo Reach Guide all on the same day?

Author answers:

If your really a MAJOR Halo fan then go with the Limited edition. To me the Limited edition may look cool a first glance but is actually just a regular 360 with paint. The slim is quieter, smaller, and kinect ready. Even if you weren’t going to buy kinect I’d still recommend the slim. If you had the money to buy the limited edition 360 but instead bought the slim you should have at least enough to buy just the regular version of halo reach If not Legendary edition.

John asks…

Problems with Halo Reach and Xbox 360?

I just bought the 4GB Xbox 360 with the Kinect ( the black Xbox) and Halo Reach. I made a map in forge world, and when I want to play it, the game doesn’t let me. I go to Custom Game and choose one of the maps I made, and it says user content not permitted. My theater mode doesnt work. I go to theather mode, and it has the 2 places where things are stored, local files and hard drive ( I think) and they’re both empty. Lastly, I cannot play online matchmaking with the general public. Out of the different options it gave me ( you can toggle these by pressing the Y button in the match making lobby) none of them have to do with playing online with the rest of the world. Do I not have a hard drive? Do they ship with hard drives, or do you have to buy them. Also, my friend told me that you had to have at least one of the DLC’s to be able to play online at all. Is this true?

Author answers:

4gb doesn’t have a hard drive (it has an internal storage), meaning you cannot save games/map packs or enter theater mode (last time I checked).

You need a hard drive, in which you can buy from Microsoft. They’re around $120. If you’re a serious gamer, it’s worth it because it’ll unlock many new features for you.

Betty asks…

How do I install Halo: Reach on my Xbox 360?

So, theoretically *cough* if I had a ripped copy of Halo Reach how do I modify my Xbox to allow me to play it (without opening the xbox up), and if I play it from a USB drive, with no hard drive, I cannot get banned right?

Author answers:

You obviously have NO knowledge whatsoever on this topic. You can’t play it from the USB drive (in theory you could but what’s the point of the disc?!) and you can get banned regardless of the presence of your hard drive or not. And the best part is they don’t just ban your account from Live. They ban your whole console from all online capabilities. Don’t do it.
